ABOUT THE APP:

Ankle-GO™ is a web application that evaluates patient’ deficits following foot and ankle injuries, in particular lateral ankle sprain (LAS) and chronic ankle instability. This objective score is a combination of 4 functional tests (Single Leg Stance, Star Excursion Balance Test, Side Hop Test and Figure of Eight Test) and 2 self-reported questionnaires (Foot and Ankle Ability Measures and Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport Injury) aimed to help clinicians when evaluating return to sport (RTS) [1]. This score was built from recent recommendations from the International Ankle Consortium [2] and is valid and reliable to predict the level of RTS following LAS [3]. The Web app allows clinicians to assess patient’s ankle function and orientate late phase of rehabilitation. Indeed it helps to identify remaining impairments associated with ankle sprains such as static/dynamic postural control, plyometric and hopping abilities, self-reported function and psychological readiness.

IS IT USEFUL FOR CLINICAL PRACTICE?

Using Ankle-GO™ score in patients who recently experience a lateral ankle sprain or suffer from chronic ankle instability could help clinician to make valid decisions in the return to sport continuum. Recent research from our team revealed that patients who scored below 8 points at 2 months were 5 times less likely to return to sport at the same level of play at 4 months [3].  In addition the same cut-off score was associated with a 9 fold increased risk of recurrence 2 years after a LAS.[7] Very recently, it has been shown that patients score below 11 points are 12 times less likely to become copers [4].
