MEET & GREET THE TEAM … NICOLA SEWRY

I’m South African, working at the Sport, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) at the University of Pretoria.

What is your main area of research / clinical expertise?

Injury and illness prevention, athlete health, rugby research, mass community-based endurance sports events.

 

What is your motivation to be a member of the BOSEM team?

BOSEM produces a substantial amount of research each year, yet it is still relatively unknown. My motivation was to improve visibility and to up the standard of work published in each issue.

 

What is a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

Being involved in the current IOC consensus statement on Acute Respiratory Illness in Athletes is a real highlight of my work career so far.

 

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

My father has been a constant influence on my work. He is an accomplished academic who has illustrated an unmatched work ethic throughout my life and taught me a lot about the academic world from day 1.

 

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

A relaxing run, followed by dinner with my best friend/husband!
