Mobile phones in safety helmets?

A questionable new device is available from a company called uClear that will permit safety helmets to receive and transmit signals. The question is whether this is a good idea or fundamentally dangerous. This revolutionary system includes microphones in two earpieces and a controller on the side of the helmet, connected by Bluetooth to various transmitting devices like smartphones. Apparently the technology was originally intended for detecting submarines and the essential trick is the use of the two microphones.  Apart from difficulty using the controller if you are wearing gloves, there is the inevitable problem of distraction while engaged in a potentially dangerous activity. However, after reading the description I am inclined to agree with the writer that “Used judiciously, it can be a safety plus.”
