What’s WONCA?

As I practice my in-flight DVT prevention exercises I reflect on how, for the last few days, I’ve been telling people excitedly that I’m going to Kyoto for a medical conference. It’s my first time in Japan. Initially they seem interested, even a little envious, but then ask what the conference is about. I tell them it’s a WONCA conference, and they dissolve into fits of giggles. I explain patiently that it’s not a meeting for chocolate factory owners, or even physicians with a special interest in auto-eroticism, but of the World Organisation of Family Doctors. (more…)
