Geriatric assessment as an aide to understanding falls in older adults with cancer.
Williams GR, Deal AM, Nyrop KA, et al
This study assessed falls and their predisposing factors in older adults with cancer using a comprehensive geriatric assessment which included a self-report of falls. These was 1172 patients included, of whom 256 (22 %) reported at least one fall in the last 6 months. Reduced physical function, low performance status, number of daily medications, comorbidities and poor vision were associated with increased falls. As falls in older patients with cancer in the community are common, identification and management of risk factors are essential.
