Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disease that is often associated with cognitive deficits, including intellectual disability. Screening for these deficits can be done by asking a patient and their caregiver to complete the TAND Checklist. Our study compared the use of this checklist with screening neurocognitive tests such as the Symbol Digit Modalities Test. We recruited adults and adolescents with TSC and mild, moderate or no intellectual disability. We found that screening neurocognitive tests may be beneficial in detecting unrecognized neurocognitive deficits in people with TSC. These deficits may be related to a person’s TSC but also their epilepsy and medications. (By Dr Mark R Keezer, https://jmg.bmj.com/content/early/2025/01/19/jmg-2024-110388 )
