TBI database

Related to the concussion issue,  it is noteworthy that the National Institutes of Health’s Center for Information Technology and the Department of Defense in the U.S. are developing a central database on traumatic brain injuries. The Federal Interagency Traumatic Brain Injury Research will receive $10 million in funding over 4 years to aid comparative effectiveness research on brain injury treatment and diagnosis. Other goals include improving diagnostic criteria for concussions and milder injuries, identifying predictive markers for those at risk of developing conditions related to traumatic brain injury and improving evidence-based guidelines for patient care for brain injury.

Comment: Looks promising and fascinating that Defense would be involved. Ironically, this could prove to be an important source of new funding for injury prevention.
