Brian Johnston and Flaura Winston were both quoted in a New York Times article appearing this past summer. Brian’s views on injury proneness were reported alongside Flaura’s regarding the risk of injury to a sibling following a sib injury. Brian postulated that this might involve ‘post-traumatic arousal’ (a component of PSTD) that increases vulnerability. Flaura observed that PSTD is not well recognized among children and poorly treated. Her concluding quote is worth repeating:
“ Before we start pinning it on the kid, let’s look – are we creating environments that allow kids to explore?”
