Voting is open until 8 October. Voting and information about the process can be found here:\u00a0https:\/\/dontsmoke.at\/.<\/p>\n<p>Austria has long been known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.generationrauchfrei.at\/wer-wir-sind\/wieso-es-uns-gibt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ashtray of Europe<\/a>. In March this year, just as long overdue\u00a0legislation for smoke free hospitality venues was due to come into force, the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/tc\/2018\/04\/22\/austria-government-chooses-tobacco-industry-interests-over-citizens-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new government overturned the laws<\/a>.Over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-austria-politics-smoking\/austrian-no-smoking-petition-against-government-reaches-500000-mark-idUSKCN1GK273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">500,000 Austrians signed a petition<\/a> urging the government to keep the laws.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerzteinitiative.at\/KurzMoore1809.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter to the Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz<\/a>, former president of the World Federation of Public Health Association Michael Moore noted the lack of progress to reduce smoking in Austria, particularly among youth. He urged the chancellor to take action, noting: &#8220;It is sad, that a wonderful country like Austria still has<br \/>\nsuch a big tobacco problem.
