These deal with governance arrangements, in particular the role and functions of Controlled Drugs Accountable Officers (CDAO), and also reflect the new architecture for the NHS in England from April 2013.<\/p>\n<p>These regulations supersede the Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2006 which came into force in 2007, and follow a consultation process by the Department of Health (DH) in September 2012 (see our article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palliativedrugs.com\/news\/2012\/september.html\">28-09-2012<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The DH has published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dh.gov.uk\/health\/2013\/02\/cd-regulations\/\">information about the 2013 Regulations<\/a>, along with the official <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2013\/373\/contents\/made\">Regulations 2013<\/a> and the summary of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dh.gov.uk\/health\/2013\/02\/controlled-drugs-response\/\">consultation responses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>NPA resources on controlled drugs<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The UK National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has produced resources for controlled drugs including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidance sheets for its members.
