Hello tree,
\nI was a teenager when I first appreciated you.
\nYour greens were greener then,
\nBut then my hair was thicker
\nSo I shouldn\u2019t compare
\nGlass houses and all that.<\/p>\n

When last I looked out
\nYou were flowering
\nThe Victorians knew you
\nAs a candle tree
\nFor those flowers
\nThey lit the way<\/p>\n

Funny when I think of it,
\nSo many times I tried paths
\nSeeing flowers ahead
\nYet now I can\u2019t recall their colours
\nThey seemed so important then.<\/p>\n

Now the flowers have gone
\nWhen was that? -it feels like yesterday
\nI must have seen them go and not
\nWondered at their passing
\nNow your branches wave brown leaves
\nLike flags of seasonal surrender.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll not see you next year,
\nBut I\u2019ll remember your flowers
\nAnd your very green leaves.
\nYou didn\u2019t know me
\nBut I knew you
\nAnd that\u2019s enough.<\/p>\n
