The stepped care included screening for distress. If present, the doctor discussed the results with the patient and if further support was needed, the patient was referred to the hospital\u2019s services. Financial difficulties were assessed using the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30). \u00a0Results showed that patients in the stepped care arm with financial difficulties at baseline had less financial difficulties at discharge (p = 0.01).
