We are particularly interested in those stories that have affected how a bioethicist \u201cdoes\u201d ethics.\u00a0We want true, personal stories in a form that is easy to read.<\/p>\n<div><!--more--><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-style: italic\">In writing your story, you might want to think about:<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How did the experience of illness change your thinking on a moral<\/div>\n<div>problem in medicine?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Did seeing issues such as informed consent played out in your own<\/div>\n<div>life alter how you would now advise health care professionals about<\/div>\n<div>caring for patients?<\/div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How did your experiences teach you about an element of medicine<\/div>\n<div>that as an outsider you never fully understood? Has it changed how<\/div>\n<div>you see patients?<\/div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Did this experience challenge some essential philosophical positions?<\/div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0How would your views about and work in bioethics have been<\/div>\n<div>different if you had experienced this illness before entering the field?<\/div>\n<div>\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Did you form any new ideas about how you think medicine should be<\/div>\n<div>practice? Bioethics?<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>You do not need to address these questions\u2014write on the issues that you think are most important to share with others. You do not need to be a writer, just tell your story in your own words. We plan to publish 10 to 12 brief stories (800 \u2013 2000 words) on this topic.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Additional stories may be published as online-only supplemental material. We also publish two commentary articles that discuss the stories in the journal. To see a finished symposium you may access\u00a0<em>Narrative Inquiry in Bioethics<\/em>Vol. 1 issue 1 for free on\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:http:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/journals\/narrative_inquiry_in_bioethics\/\">Project MUSE<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If you are interested in submitting a story, we ask you first to submit a 300-word proposal\u2014a short description of the story you want to tell.
