This paper raises the question of whether dying will become an optional part of the human life cycle if assisted dying becomes more widely available and a popular option? We ask what might be lost if there was no more dying, only direct death. She has undertaken empirical and theoretical investigations into the UK\u2019s right-to-die debate, including examining the beliefs of British \u2018suicide tourists\u2019 and the phenomenon of old age rational suicide. She is currently Principal Investigator for a large UK Research &amp; Innovation funded project called \u2018Dying in the Margins\u2019 about the effects of financial hardship and living in deprived areas on experiences of dying.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2856\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/medical-humanities\/files\/2021\/02\/Richards-Naomi-and-Marian-Krawczyk-What-is-the-cultural-value-of-dying-in-an-era-of-assisted-dying_Krawczyk.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"229\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>D<\/em><em>r Marian Krawczyk is a medical anthropologist, ethnographer, and Program Convenor for the End of Life Studies MSc Program at the University of Glasgow.
