Classic films like \u2018The bicycle thief\u2019 (Vittorio De Sica, 1948) warmed the hearts of European and international audiences alike. Iconic legends Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni acting together in films such as \u2018Yesterday, today and tomorrow\u2019 (Vittorio De Sica, 1963), \u2018Marriage Italian style\u2019 (Vittorio De Sica, 1964), and \u2018A special day\u2019 (Ettore Scola, 1977) enjoyed rapturous worldwide reception. The last shot of this beautiful film portraying \u2018peer support between patients, empathy, and sacrifice\u2019 is a master scene that will linger in the hearts and minds of viewers for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>Dealing with terminal illness and how family members face up to or pretend to ignore the impending death of a loved one is the theme of Valeria Golino\u2019s poignant drama \u2018Euforia\u2019. The life of a school teacher is in turmoil after a diagnosis of a \u2018brain cyst\u2019; his mother, brother, wife, son and mistress all deal with that \u2018diagnosis\u2019 in a different way.<\/p>\n<p>Italian politics, organizational corruption, and the alienation of the middle classes are seen in three films: \u2018Loro\u2019 (Paolo Sorrentino) follows the media tycoon and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and his entourage between 2006<span class=\"st\">\u2013<\/span>2009, \u2018Lucia\u2019s grace\u2019 (Gianni Zanasi) tells the story of a land surveyor facing corrupt local government using non-orthodox methods, while \u2018The man who bought the moon\u2019 (Paolo Zucca) adopts a satirical approach to explore an unlikely friendship between two men from the village of Sardinia.<\/p>\n<p>Love and its shenanigans in contemporary Italy are seen in three films: \u2018Ricordi\u2019 (Valerio Mieli), \u2018The guest\u2019 (Duccio Chiarini), and \u2018We\u2019ll be young and beautiful\u2019 (Letizia Lamartire).
