On the 8th and 9th of July 2010 the Faculty of Health and Social Care\u00a0at London South Bank University will be hosting a pioneering\u00a0conference focusing on Best Practices in Clinical Ethics Consultation\u00a0and Decision Making. For the first time in the UK, this conference\u00a0will bring together an international and inter-professional dialogue\u00a0between different stakeholders with the aim of fostering and\u00a0developing best practice in clinical ethics consultation and\u00a0decision-making across all sectors of healthcare.<\/p>\n
Dr Doug Diekema, a leading paediatrician and ethicist from the Treuman\u00a0Katz Center in Seattle, will be delivering the keynote speech\u00a0reflecting on lessons learnt from his involvement with the\u00a0controversial case of a girl with severe mental and physical\u00a0disabilities which became known as the Ashley (Pillow Angel) case.<\/p>\n
Other speakers in this highly interactive conference include the\u00a0political activist Debbie Purdy (subject to health) and the team\u00a0behind the BBC Radio 4 programme “Inside the Ethics Committee”.<\/p>\n
