{"id":230,"date":"2010-01-12T15:12:42","date_gmt":"2010-01-12T14:12:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/medical-ethics\/?p=230"},"modified":"2010-01-12T15:30:02","modified_gmt":"2010-01-12T14:30:02","slug":"a-very-small-post-about-homeopathy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/medical-ethics\/2010\/01\/12\/a-very-small-post-about-homeopathy\/","title":{"rendered":"A Very Small Post about Homeopathy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know I keep stressing the distinction between ethics and activist &#8211; and how it&#8217;s usually just before I witter on about something vaguely activistic.\u00a0 However, I do think it&#8217;s worth popping over to look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1023.org.uk\/\">10:23 Campaign<\/a>, which takes a robust and sceptical attitude to homeopathy.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re not sure about why it&#8217;s worth making a fuss, I&#8217;d recommend having a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.layscience.net\/node\/828\">Martin Robbins&#8217; account<\/a> of the evidence about homeopathy presented to the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee; having a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/xtaldave.posterous.com\/blinded-by-pseudo-science\">xtaldave&#8217;s skewering of the &#8220;evidence&#8221;<\/a> that homeopaths sometimes cite in their own favour; and having a look at\u00a0what is probably the most remarkable of the lot: the details of UCLAN&#8217;s BSc in homeopathy as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcscience.net\/?p=2628#follow\">reviewed by UCL&#8217;s David Colquhoun<\/a>, which is of particular interest from an ethicist&#8217;s point of view, referring as it does to to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homeopathy-soh.org\/about-homeopathy\/documents\/CodeofEthicsApr04.pdf\">code of ethics of the Society of Homeopaths<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Have fun!\u00a0 But don&#8217;t forget to dilute it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: Oh, all right.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UB_htqDCP-s&amp;feature=related\">Have some Tim Minchin<\/a>, in what is probably the best jazz-poetry take-down of this nonsense you&#8217;re likely to see today.\u00a0 Well worth ten minutes of your time.<!--TrendMD v2.4.8--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know I keep stressing the distinction between ethics and activist &#8211; and how it&#8217;s usually just before I witter on about something vaguely activistic.\u00a0 However, I do think it&#8217;s worth popping over to look at the 10:23 Campaign, which takes a robust and sceptical attitude to homeopathy.
