Fewer road injuries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A report from Abu Dhabi describes a large reduction in traffic injuries during a\u00a0\u00a0 week when BlackBerry services were disrupted. The fall was 20% from the average for the same days in Dubai and 40% in Abu Dhabi. Not surprisingly, the fall was greatest among young men, the largest users of the device. The results of this \u2018natural experiment\u2019 provide further evidence \u2013 if any were needed \u2013 of the dangers of phone use while driving. The dangers of using mobile phones while driving were further reinforced by the earlier death of a popular footballer who crashed into the rear of a truck while using a BlackBerry.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, Abu Dhabi Police announced a campaign against motorists who use their phones while at the wheel. They said they would be \u201cusin<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-317\" style=\"float: left;border: 0px initial initial\" title=\"images\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/injury-prevention\/files\/2011\/11\/images.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"138\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>g electronic evidence\u201d to show who sent what when.
