Professor Shanzhu Zhu wins the WONCA Asia Pacific Region Five Star Doctor in 2019

The 2019 WONCA Asia Pacific Region Conference was held on 15th to 18th in May in Kyoto, Japan,  under the shining sun. Its theme this year was “Medical generalists: bringing forward a brighter future”.

Excellent news!

Professor Shanzhu Zhu, president of the Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association-Committee of General Practice, won the 2019 WONCA Asia Pacific Region Five Star Doctor Award. (The second from the left in the following picture).

The concept of a “five star doctor” was proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) awards Five Star Doctor Awards to outstanding family doctors each year in its major member regions. The award evaluates the declared family doctors as the care provider, decision-maker, communicator, community leader and manager.

Under the joint recommendation of the Chinese Medical Association General Practice Branch and the Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association-Committee of General Practice, Professor Shanzhu Zhu was voted the winner of the WONCA Asia Pacific Region Five Star Doctor Award in 2019. She is the first general practitioner in mainland China to receive this honour.

The award shows that the work of Chinese general practitioners has been recognized and praised by international peers. It also shows the outstanding contribution of Professor Shanzhu Zhu to the development of general practice in China and throughout the rest of the world.
