Project Seahorse\u2014background <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

As you\u2019ll remember, in 2089 things were tough for our country. We were reeling from successive financial crashes. The population was old\u2014really old. And our birth rate was dangerously low. Women just weren\u2019t having as many children\u2014or any at all. The Government, banks, care homes, hospitals etc. were deeply concerned.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then ICL announced a boar had undergone a successful womb implant, egg implant and had carried a healthy foetus to term (delivered by C-section). They asked for male human volunteers. <\/span><\/p>\n

This idea of “Male Motherhood” (MM) gained traction. But there was also hostility. Remember the riots of 2090? Opponents of MM organised nationwide protests which, in some areas, turned into full-scale riots. Paternity clinics were set on fire, and doctors sympathetic to MM were targeted for harassment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The response\u2014Project Seahorse Phase 1<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Our agency fought off eleven others to win the Government tender for Project Seahorse\u2014and I led the pitch. The result of Project Seahorse was 2095\u2019s award-winning ad campaign, <\/span>Your Country Needs You Still<\/span><\/i>, [1] which urged thousands [2]<\/span> of cis men to take advantage of the huge advances in bioengineering over the last decade and start having babies themselves. As you know, I researched, co-wrote and art-directed this campaign. MM is a huge part of my professional life. I know it inside out. <\/span><\/p>\n

2099\u2014where we are now<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

We\u2019re seeing a slight downturn in applications for MM and need to try something different to re-engage the public and freshen the message. Hence Seahorse Phase 2\u2014a documentary following a high-profile celebrity\u2019s journey into MM, from womb implant to egg implant to caesarean delivery of the child.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe a montage when the baby is here (touch wood)\u2014showing Craig throughout his pregnancy and then all three together. Maybe laughing in the living room or garden or something, I\u2019ll leave that to you. But never just Ruthie\u2014she doesn\u2019t want that. <\/span><\/p>\n

Re: Ruthie\u2014understood. This is Craig\u2019s show. <\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019re aiming big. We want MM to be the norm by 2120. We\u2019ll be promoting this hard in all channels and we\u2019re putting big spend behind it too. I want every man in Britain to know Craig Brogan is getting pregnant, so why not him too. I want every teenage boy in every college in every county factoring MM into his career plans. I want it to be all over social. I want strangers talking on the tube! <\/span><\/p>\n

A thought: when he\u2019s six months, let\u2019s reshoot the Slate Yorston campaign. How iconic would that be? The same man\u2014the same underwear range\u2014the same muscles\u2014only now he\u2019s with child. Beautiful.<\/span><\/p>\n

I met with their so-called \u2018celebrity doctor\u2019 and do you know what he reminds me of? His hands, specifically? A peregrine falcon.<\/span><\/p>\n

I saw a documentary on peregrines only last week, which is probably why I made the link. Did you know they\u2019re sexually dimorphic? Which means the males and females have different characteristics beyond the obvious. e.g. female falcons are significantly bigger than male ones.<\/span><\/p>\n

This MM thing is a long, long process and I don\u2019t want a peregrine looking after me. I\u2019m keeping my Personal. Please let them know.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately\u2014and apologies, I\u2019ve only just found out myself\u2014his doctor doesn\u2019t want to appear on camera. Problem being there are still\u2014believe it or not\u2014a few people out there who are vehemently opposed to this whole MM thing and she doesn\u2019t want any adverse publicity. Or, of course, to put Craig in danger. Let\u2019s not forget Newton Cherrett, after all. Not that I\u2019m suggesting anything like that would happen now, God forbid. Times have changed, people are more accepting. But just to be sure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. From a technical point of view, this isn\u2019t necessarily a problem. I\u2019ve spoken with the producer and there are all sorts of things they can do with camera angles, focusing on hands, backs of heads, etc. Maybe even a screen if that would make her feel more comfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just some mild concern from me about the effect this could have on the emotional resonance of the show. Imagine the moment when she says \u2018Craig, you\u2019re ready to have a baby\u2019. Yes, we\u2019ll have his face, but it would be so much stronger to have hers too. If we\u2019re staring at her manicure as she delivers the news or worse, watching Craig reacting to a sheet or similar\u2014I just don\u2019t know if that\u2019s going to deliver the impact we need to get men signing up. <\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019d urge you to urge Craig to reconsider. Please let me know how you get on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anything you want it to track, it\u2019ll track. e.g. I\u2019m watching my heart at the moment\u2014long story\u2014but it can differentiate between an exercise-related heart rate increase and a non-exercise related heart rate increase, and alerts me accordingly.     But I\u2019m sure it\u2019s not 5. Desperately hoping it\u2019s not 3. But also very aware there\u2019s extra pressure when you agree to carry your second child to make up for (allegedly) \u2018dislodging\u2019 your first.<\/span><\/p>\n

You yourself confirmed he got the all-clear from the psychologists (and most people don\u2019t get free consultations with top psychologists before starting a family). I hardly think he\u2019s topped himself over the thought of impending parenthood. It wasn\u2019t a surprise, what he was getting into, was it? <\/span><\/p>\n

    Unless you bullied him into thinking it was the only way things would ever get better for him after what he did to Ruthie? I never did get my meeting with him before shooting started, did I?<\/span><\/p>\n

    What a week. I apologise again for my comments. I was out of my mind with worry over Craig. <\/span><\/p>\n

    But we\u2019ve got the two (three) of them back, even if it\u2019s not quite the family we started out with, and even if it\u2019s done sweet FA for Craig\u2019s reputation. Still, we\u2019ll get our montage of them laughing in the living room or wherever. Apparently Selina\u2019s all for being on camera now. Will certainly add a new flavour.<\/span><\/p>\n
