Two doctors from Pakistan (a husband and wife) sought me out to say they had taken part in my Evidence Live workshop two years earlier, on how to publish research. They went on to complete their research and, for the first time, to successfully publish two papers. \u201cBMJ helped us broaden our vision, and changed our lives\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>Similar stories, and a growing realisation that <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/2016\/01\/14\/paul-glasziou-and-iain-chalmers-is-85-of-health-research-really-wasted\/\">we all need to tackle the huge challenge of waste in research<\/a>, inspired BMJ to develop <a href=\"http:\/\/rtop.bmj.com\">Research to Publication<\/a>.\u00a0This is a comprehensive eLearning programme for early career researchers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Research to Publication is aimed at researchers and their institutions worldwide, with a special focus on building health research capabilities and <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.lse.ac.uk\/impactofsocialsciences\/2016\/02\/10\/research-to-publication-how-to-do-great-research-get-it-published-improve-health\/\">supporting research integrity in low and middle income countries<\/a>. We have partnered in this with Professor\u00a0Deborah Grady and colleagues at <a href=\"https:\/\/ctsi.ucsf.edu\/news\/about-ctsi\/bmj-collaborates-ucsf-elearning-programme-researchers\">UCSF&#8217;s Clinical and Translational\u00a0Science Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The programme helps researchers and students to develop and polish their skills in clinical and public health research, and in reporting and publishing studies in a timely manner, transparently, and ethically. Research to Publication includes two free modules: one from BMJ on developing and publishing study protocols (particularly clinical trial protocols) and, from our partners UCSF, an introduction to clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p>In a workshop at this <a href=\"http:\/\/evidencelive.org\/workshop-abstracts\/#Trish%20Groves\">year\u2019s Evidence Live<\/a> I\u2019ll be sharing insights from Research to Publication, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohri.ca\/profile\/dmoher\">David Moher<\/a>\u00a0will be talking about the quality of published clinical research and how reporting guidelines can help prospective authors prepare their reports, helping to ensure they are complete, accurate, and transparent. Such reports will likely make peer review easier and might decrease the number of rounds of manuscript revisions. The EQUATOR Network keeps a comprehensive list of all reporting guidelines. David will also review the Network and the library of reporting guidelines. David will also briefly talk about a potpourri of other publication science topics, including systematic reviews and how to register them, an update on the REWARD alliance, and peer review.<\/p>\n<p>And remember today is International Clinical Trials day.
