Mark Baker, director of the Centre for Clinical Practice at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), said on 17 August that these new guidelines from NICE were designed to \u201chelp professionals resist that pressure from the public,\u201d adding that prescribing antibiotics that were unlikely to help a patient was \u201cnot good medicine.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines warn of antibiotic resistant infections, and offer a \u201cpincer movement\u201d to improve prescription reviews and public knowledge on prescribed antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/08\/cigarette_parliament.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-35003 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/08\/cigarette_parliament-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"cigarette_parliament\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><strong>\u2022\u00a0Smoke free legislation in England has reduced stillbirths, neonatal mortality, and low birth weight<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the first four years after 2007, when smoke free legislation was introduced in England, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/351\/bmj.h4469\">the new regulations improved child health and childbirth, a study has found<\/a>.
