The figures show that the number of syphilis diagnoses increased by nearly half and gonorrhoea cases increased by one third in 2013-14.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/doctor_depressed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-34548\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/doctor_depressed-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"doctor_depressed\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u2022 Also in news, Jacqui Wise reports on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h3456\">the findings of a new survey from the BMA<\/a>, which shows that seven in 10 doctors never have rest time after a busy night on call. The survey of 847 consultants in England and Northern Ireland found that 88% reported being on an on-call rota and that just under half were called to attend hospital during the week, on one to six occasions.
