At the BMA\u2019s annual representative meeting in Liverpool, delegates voted overwhelmingly to call for the whole system to be suspended, which they agreed was not fit for purpose.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, the royal college wrote to health secretary Jeremy Hunt calling for an \u201curgent review of the CQC\u2019s regulatory regime, to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, and to ensure that it reflects the distinctive nature of general practice and focuses on what matters most to patients.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/brain_mri.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-34505\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/brain_mri-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"brain_mri\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u2022 <strong>China rejects patent for hepatitis C drug<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h3429\">Another country has rejected a patent application for sofosbuvir (Sovaldi)<\/a>, the billion dollar earning drug for hepatitis C from US biotechnology firm Gilead Sciences. China follows Egypt and India in claiming that the main ingredient of the drug is not novel, opening up the possibility of a generic\u2014and much cheaper\u2014version of sofosbuvir appearing on the Chinese market soon. The global humanitarian charity M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res\u00a0said the decision in China could help to push down the price of sofosbuvir in other countries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/climatechange_floods1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-34518\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/06\/climatechange_floods1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"climatechange_floods\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u2022 <strong>Act on climate change<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h3416\">Climate change provides an opportunity to make big improvements in human health<\/a>, because the changes needed to counter it will clean the air, encourage more active lives, rebuild cities in a more humane way, and improve the diet of those who live in them, says the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/commissions\/climate-change\">Commission on Climate Change<\/a> set up by the <em>Lancet<\/em>.
