The authors of the case report suggest that the stimulation of playing the game may explain why the man did not feel pain from his injury. Video games might, they suggest, have a potential role in pain management, and any pain reduction effect may be a reason why \u201csome individuals play video games excessively, manifest addiction, or sustain injuries associated with video gaming.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The importance of doctors thinking about their role as carers is emphasised in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h1759\">an \u201cIf I Ruled the NHS\u201d piece by Chris Holcombe<\/a>, a consultant breast surgeon at Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Holcombe argues that \u201cevery candidate for every job in the NHS\u201d should be asked about care. \u201cWe don\u2019t need to define it,\u201d he says. \u201cAfter all, it looks different in each area and for each role, but we do want to ask the question, to reflect on the answers, even to struggle with the answers . . . In this way, care will regain its place as one of the core values of the NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A report from the BMA\u2019s Medical Academic Staff Committee, <a href=\"http:\/\/careers.bmj.com\/careers\/advice\/view-article.html?id=20021802\">covered by BMJ Careers, argues all doctors should think of themselves as scientists<\/a>, and all medical education and training should teach doctors to understand scientific evidence. The committee says that all doctors \u201cshould regard themselves as scientists investigating the social and biological aspects of health and illnesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/04\/colorectal_cancer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-33930\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/04\/colorectal_cancer-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"colorectal_cancer\" width=\"189\" height=\"122\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/04\/colorectal_cancer-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/04\/colorectal_cancer.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/><\/a>\u2022 Elsewhere in <em>The BMJ<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h1662\">a research paper <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h2029\">an editorial<\/a> look at the time to benefit of using flexible sigmoidoscopy for colorectal cancer screening.
