There is evidence casting doubt on such assumptions, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h867%20\">says Barratt<\/a>, but it is limited. In the meanwhile, we need more agreement between experts, to help women make informed choices, and we should think twice before expanding screening programmes.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/03\/mammogram_room.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-33520\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/03\/mammogram_room-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"mammogram_room\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But <strong>how willing are people to accept overdetection in cancer screening anyway?<\/strong> The answer varies, according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h980\">population survey conducted by Van den Bruel<\/a> et al.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h1095\">Too much medicine is not just a problem of rich countries<\/a><\/strong>, says Jain, who describes manifestations of overdiagnosis and overtreatment in India, as well as burgeoning initiatives against them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/03\/mobile_phone_teen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-33521\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/files\/2015\/03\/mobile_phone_teen-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"mobile_phone_teen\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Now for a good news story on use of new technology:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/350\/bmj.h1099\"> editorialists Bailey and colleagues discuss how <strong>digital media can promote sexual health<\/strong><\/a>. Internet or mobile phone interventions are ideal for this purpose\u2014accessible (especially by those in high risk groups), private, convenient, and allowing for &#8220;self paced and personalised&#8221; learning.
