He <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bmj\/2014\/09\/11\/jim-murray-what-have-medicines-to-do-with-health-in-the-eu\/\">explains in his blog<\/a>: &#8220;In the UK, the Department of Health is the &#8216;parent,&#8217; or sponsoring department, for the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). That seems reasonable. It would be surprising if the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) were given the job, yet something like this has just happened in the new European Commission announced today.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Other things that we should not miss include several articles published on thebmj.com yesterday. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/349\/bmj.g5114\">Neeraj Sood and colleagues present their research<\/a> on government health insurance for people below the poverty line in India. The head of the Cancer Drugs Fund, Peter Clark, defends the body&#8217;s approach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/349\/bmj.g5545\">in a feature by Andrew Jack<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/349\/bmj.g5340\">Deborah Hay and colleagues look at neutropenia<\/a> in primary care.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the latest device from Apple\u2014the Apple Watch\u2014is one thing that we can be certain won&#8217;t be launched quietly.
