And make it a double yes!<\/p>\n<p>2019 was a great year for the Football is Medicine (FIM) initiative: starting with the success of the second conference in Odense, Denmark back in January 25-26, to working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SduSport\/status\/1188355405010952192\">most productive soccer scientists<\/a> in the world to advance the field. 2019 ended beautifully for the FIM team with the birth of a book: Football as Medicine (FAM), by Peter Krustrup and Dan Parnell.\u00a0Published in December 2019, this fundamental volume captures all the work done in the FIM world up until today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/2020\/01\/09\/football-as-medicine-or-is-that-football-is-medicine-does-it-even-matter\/screen-shot-2020-01-08-at-5-41-40-pm\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8937\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8937 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2020\/01\/Screen-Shot-2020-01-08-at-5.41.40-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2020\/01\/Screen-Shot-2020-01-08-at-5.41.40-PM.png 622w, https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2020\/01\/Screen-Shot-2020-01-08-at-5.41.40-PM-203x300.png 203w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>FAM will be officially presented at the third FIM conference in T\u00f3rshavn, co-hosted and organized by researcher, co-author and football enthusiast, Magni Mohr.<\/p>\n<p>As a reviewer of this book, I can only say that this book belongs in the hands of anyone interested in the field of exercise, football or medicine whether separately or inter-related.<\/p>\n<p>The past successful conferences have proven that FIM is here to stay. And, now with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Football-as-Medicine-Prescribing-Football-for-Global-Health-Promotion\/Krustrup-Parnell\/p\/book\/9780367248888\"><strong>FAM Book<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/v9GIHu0MmCA\"><strong>FIM2020 Conference<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(once again on 25, 26 January), we are building on top of a solid foundation. FIM\u00a0has proven time and time again to be an evidence-based concept within the exercise medicine realm, deserving its own rightful place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Just as you thought there couldn\u2019t be more\u2026 Let me enlighten you to three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greengate.fo\/en\/conferences-incentives\/upcoming\/football-is-medicine-2020\/pre-conference-event\/\"><strong>pre-conference events<\/strong><\/a> we have planned for this year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cFIT FIRST 10\u201d (21 January),<\/li>\n<li>\u201c11 for Health\u201d (22 &amp; 23 January) and<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFootball Fitness\u201d (24 January).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These three courses will look at the evidence-base for football to improve the physical fitness, health profile, well-being and cognitive function of untrained individuals across the lifespan.<\/p>\n<p>BJSM will also be present at the event: I will be joined by my BJSM colleague and BMJ Open SEM Editor-in-Chief, Emmanuel Stamatakis (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/m_stamatakis?lang=en\"><strong>@<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/m_stamatakis?lang=en\"><strong>M_Stamatakis<\/strong><\/a>), to present \u201cThe Global Action Plan for Physical Activity and Health\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Back to what brought you to this blog: is it FIM or FAM? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I say both! Both have the capacity to stand on their own, but together, the concepts have now spread beyond Europe- reaching as far as <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/50oeskvCjq0\"><strong>China<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Join us this year in the largest city of the Faroe Islands: Torshavn. There are still some registrations available, but not for long!
