Authors Colin Fuller, Astrid Junge, Cadrivel Dorasami, Jeff DeCelles, and Jiri Dvorak investigated how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fifa.com\/newscentre\/photogallery\/gallery=1033482.html#1033477\" target=\"_blank\">FIFA\u2019s 11 for Health <\/a>programme (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fifa.com\/worldcup\/archive\/southafrica2010\/organisation\/footballforhealth\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">watch promo video<\/a>) impacted 10 to 15 year old children\u2019s health knowledge in Mauritius and Zimbabwe. They conclude that the collaborative implementation model was successful and that post-programme analyses showed significant increases in most of the participants\u2019 health knowledge.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 646px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"kids playing soccer\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2011\/06\/kids-playing-soccer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"646\" height=\"347\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo courtesy of: StephenandMelanie, Flickr Creative Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As an outcome of these successful pilot projects and the 2011 <a href=\"\/\/www.fifa.com\/aboutfifa\/developing\/medical\/news\/newsid=1366848.html\" target=\"_blank\">nationwide implementation of the programme in Mauritius<\/a>, over the last 2 months Dr Junge and Dr Fuller worked with Dr. Dvorak on a four-week programme expansion initiative. This involved \u2018training the trainers\u2019 in Nairobi (Kenya), and Windhoek (Namibia), and making presentations to Football Associations in Botswana and Malawi. (<a href=\"\/\/www.fifa.com\/aboutfifa\/developing\/medical\/news\/newsid=1443721.html\" target=\"_blank\">Read more about the nationwide implementation initiative here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dvorak also presented the results of successful nationwide implementation of the programme to the 61st FIFA Congress on June 1st, 2011 in Zurich. This congress received global media attention. Following the presentation, officials from many countries around the world approached FIFA&#8217;s medical team (F-MARC) to express their desire to partner in this initiative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1368\" title=\"FIFA bjsm\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2011\/06\/FIFA-bjsm1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"269\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>This project team exemplifies commitment to combining scientific rigour with social responsibility to create an exercise-based tool for health promotion. The potential for scaling up this programme means is has tremendous public health significance.
