<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1466853X13001065\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(20)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PRGP is effectively an injury to osseous structures due to a reaction (either acute or chronic) which the structures cannot cope with; effectively it is a Bone Stress Injury (BSI) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7049623\/pdf\/jkms-35-e38.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(21)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Incorporating a more holistic view of athlete health could well mitigate the progression of a BSI, with gut health emerging as an important risk factor for BSI <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8192811\/pdf\/fspor-03-665683.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(22)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Monitoring of training load is a complex process, with an element of chronic training load being argued by Gabbett (2016) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bjsm.bmj.com\/content\/50\/5\/273\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(23)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to avoid injuries from acute increases in load encountered by athletes;
