Beginning with adductor related groin pain (ARGP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Adductor Related Groin Pain (ARGP):<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ARGP is defined as adductor tenderness and pain on resisted adduction testing (see Figure 1) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4484366\/pdf\/bjsports-2015-094869.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(18)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 ARGP has an incidence of between 3 and 23% <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23740671\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(19)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7996386\/pdf\/JBS-38-97669.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(20)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> &amp; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28666981\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(21)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> more commonly affecting young to middle-aged athletic males compared to females.\u00a0 Certain sports, such as football, have a yearly incidence of 10-18% <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28666981\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(21)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with approximately 53% of ARGP within football being from overuse <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19945984\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(22)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10775\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-image-171x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"493\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-image-171x300.png 171w, https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-image.png 292w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Figure 1<\/strong>: Groin Pain (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Weir A, Brukner P, Delahunt E, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2015) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4484366\/pdf\/bjsports-2015-094869.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(18)<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Copenhagen \u2018Hip and Groin Outcome Score\u2019 (HAGOS) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21478502\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(23)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a patient reported outcome measure with six separate subscales, assessing pain; symptoms; physical function in daily living; physical function in sport and recreation; participating in physical activities and hip and \/ or groin quality of life.\u00a0 It has substantial test-retest reliability with adequate measurement qualities for use with physically active, young to middle-aged patients with long-standing hip and \/ or groin pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As defined by Weir <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. (2015) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4484366\/pdf\/bjsports-2015-094869.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(18)<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ARGP was found to be the most common clinical entity (61% of athletes) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/cjsportsmed\/Abstract\/2018\/07000\/Multidisciplinary_Assessment_of_100_Athletes_With.6.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(24)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> , with the vast majority of these athletes being male (98%) football (60%) players.\u00a0 There were multiple causes for the ARGP. Unfortunately study quality on groin injury management has been historically low <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4484372\/pdf\/bjsports-2014-094256.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(25)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This could be because there is a close and complex relationship between ARGP and Pubic Related Groin Pain, along with other aspects of groin pain such as iliopsoas and inguinal.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The most efficacious treatment for long-standing ARGP is exercise therapy.\u00a0 There is insufficient\u00a0 evidence within the literature to recommend a specific exercise protocol or modality <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23740671\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(19)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 However the exercises described in the modules from H\u00f6lmich <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (1999)<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0140673698033406\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(26)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and iteration <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bmjopensem.bmj.com\/content\/bmjosem\/4\/1\/e000343.full.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(27)<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">appear to be beneficial, regarding reduction in pain and return to sport without groin pain at 16 week follow up in comparison to passive treatments (exercise stretching, electrotherapy and transverse friction massage).\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emphasis should be paid to adductor eccentric strength in particular <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bmjopensem.bmj.com\/content\/bmjosem\/4\/1\/e000343.full.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(27)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0 Use of The \u2018Copenhagen Adduction\u2019 (CA) exercise <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(see Figure 2) reduced the prevalence and risk of groin problems in male footballers by 41% <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bjsm.bmj.com\/content\/53\/3\/150\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(28)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10776\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-2-300x261.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-2-300x261.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/bjsm\/files\/2023\/09\/adductor-2.png 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Figure 2<\/strong>: The Copenhagen Adduction Exercise (A) starting \/ ending position and (B) mid positions, for the different levels of the adductor strengthening programme (Haroy J, Clarsen B, Wiger EG, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">et al<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 2019) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bjsm.bmj.com\/content\/53\/3\/150\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(28)<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rehabilitation focused on inter-segmental control has been associated with improved HAGOS <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21478502\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(23)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> scores and good rates of pain-free return to sport across <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bjsm.bmj.com\/content\/bjsports\/52\/16\/1054.full.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(29)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a variety of groin pain diagnoses <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4484366\/pdf\/bjsports-2015-094869.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(18)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=P82-i7FZ-Fg\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SSC Sports Medicine Groin Lab &#8211;
