{"id":590,"date":"2013-06-14T10:23:59","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T09:23:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/adc\/?p=590"},"modified":"2013-06-14T10:32:03","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T09:32:03","slug":"adc_jc-the-story-of-our-first-twitter-journal-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/adc\/2013\/06\/14\/adc_jc-the-story-of-our-first-twitter-journal-club\/","title":{"rendered":"#ADC_JC &#8211; the story of our first twitter journal club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month saw the start of <a title=\"#ADC_JC : Archives of  Disease in Childhood\u2019s first twitter journal club.\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bmj.com\/adc\/2013\/06\/05\/adc_jc-archives-of-disease-in-childhoods-first-twitter-journal-club\/\" target=\"_blank\">#ADC_JC<\/a> \u2013 the Archives of Disease in Childhood twitter journal club.\u00a0 The aim was to engage paediatric health professionals in social media and discuss a journal paper on twitter in real time.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And it was a success.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We discussed <a title=\"Gill et al\" href=\"http:\/\/adc.bmj.com\/content\/98\/5\/328.full.pdf+html\" target=\"_blank\">Gill et al\u2019s paper<\/a> about increasing paediatric admission via Emergency Departments.\u00a0 Around 40 people contributed to the discussion, which took place over an hour \u2013 these were not confined to Brits, but even included some Aussies who were enthused enough to get up at 5am.\u00a0 And one of the authors of the paper was involved in the discussion too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The twitter chat was dynamic and exciting.\u00a0 As well as critical appraisal of the actual paper, we went on to look at ways of improving our practice by dealing with the rise in paediatric emergency admissions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are aiming to run the #ADC_JC once a month (follow @ADC_JC for updates) and hope to engage some of the \u2018lurkers\u2019 next time too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The storify summary of #ADC_JC can be found\u00a0<a title=\"Storify of #ADC_JC\" href=\"http:\/\/storify.com\/TessaRDavis\/method\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<!--TrendMD v2.4.8--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month saw the start of #ADC_JC \u2013 the Archives of Disease in Childhood twitter journal club.\u00a0 The aim was to engage paediatric health professionals in social media and discuss a journal paper on twitter in real time.
