Acute respiratory distress following the inhalation of an aerosol upholstery cleaner: the importance of reporting from the Emergency Department

We are exposed to many potential chemical hazards especially at work and this case report highlights the importance of clear labelling on products. Often, in Emergency Departments, the potential irritant is brought in with the patient and, out of hours, may sometimes be the only source of information about the potential hazard. The UK National Poisons Information Service (and similar organisations internationally) is invaluable in these circumstances but they must be made aware of new cases. The authors of this case report describe such an event and how it altered the packaging of the aerosol.
