Thanks - in fact I was unaware of World No Tobacco Day, but in the blogs I have frequently referred to tobacco as a lethal addictive drug. The biggest favour we can do all our smoking patients is to help them give up, however long it takes. Every day should be no tobacco day. It's crazy that we citizens allow our governments to milk the tobacco industry for billions in taxes in exchange for poisoning the population.

Dear Richard, I am a big admirer of your blog. I thought the World no tobacco day - 31st May- that this year covered the tobacco industries influence deserved a mention. It is the first no tobacco day after the great book by RN Proctor Golden holocaust was published and things are changing. It is 100 years since the L Adler article Primary malignant growth of the lungs and bronchi. London: Longmans-Green, a very sad thought... We all share a responsibility to use the knowledge we have to demand relevant changes in this respect. Everyone should ask the question: ''What have I done in the tobacco war? Could I have done more?''
