Steve, many thanks. I do try to keep our students aware of the great scope of the specialty and acknowledge that there are some very good and positive aspects about cosmetic as well as Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. We are dealing with quality of life and making a positive change in any person so that they really do experience a more fulfilling and satisfying self-image and interpersonal reactions is very worthwhile. As such I am not anti-cosmetic surgery BUT I am concerned that the image of the Plastic Surgeon is not defined by Hollywood and the media as a self-indulgent and frivolous wallet miner! Yes we must all keep plugging

Andrew,

This came up on my facebook newsfeed and I share your thoughts. It is amazing how microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, flap reconstruction, burn care and the multitude of contributions like face transplant and now stem cells gets buried under the impression that we only serve the frivilous.

Keep plugging! Steve
