“We all rely on trust,” Walker-Smith told the GMC panel, in words for which he will be remembered. “I trusted Dr Wakefield.”

This is a comment without context. It makes it sound like Walker-Smith was regretting having trusted Dr. Wakefield without actually saying so. It may so, but without context explaining one way or the other, it could easily be taken as an implicit statement of trust (while they were working together) without bearing on current trust relationships. Bad journalism.

Autism and vaccines: It's the link that just won't die. One defective study doesn’t disprove the link.

The main reason why people talk about vaccines and autism is that many parents have noticed changes in children shortly after the children were vaccinated. Their kids seemed to be developing normally, then suddenly stopped interacting with people and lost language abilities -- a condition called "regressive" autism.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences is studying more than 600 families with autism. This study is looking at the interplay between genetic and a wide range of environmental factors in autism. Vaccines are one of the many environmental factors being analyzed.

Autism may just be a result of the perfect storm – Too many vaccines or environmental toxins or a shortage of nutritional requirements and young children with immature immune systems that are overwhelmed.
