I have been checking the on-line pharmacies, and find that without any face-to-face consultation, without claiming to have a fever or joint pain, I get offered a course of Tamiflu sent by post! I am also bemused by the policy of allowing, even encouraging, corporate stock-piling, which has led to several companies asking whether they can buy a job lot of Tamiflu in case any of their staff fall ill. This seems entirely irresponsible use of an anti-infective agent which will be of moderate benefit in most cases but could be life-saving in certain individuals - unless we have bred a resistant strain by indiscriminate distribution.

The only ?swine 'flu case I have seen to date took 45 minutes to "process" by the time I had given all the details to the HPA..twice..and waited 10 minutes while they decided whether I should do swabs or not. Then having advised yes to swabs, there was nothing to tell me if I had kit 1,2 or 3 and the instructions seemed subtly different according to which kit you were using. Then having sent the swabs I have heard nothing for 10 days....So heaven help us if it really turns out to be vicious after all!
