...when I see a person cycling (especially a wealthy person) I really do have hope. The same happens when I see a reasonably full bus..

Cycling in Leicester is a complete nightmare. As you say this is supposed to be an environmentally aware city and it fails miserably.

I commute daily by bike and daily battle to keep myself safe from inconsiderate and aggressive drivers.

One morning I had a car scrape past my handle bars trying to overtake - the excuse of the driver - "I'm in a hurry you know!" Sadly, this response is more typical than I'd like to believe. I did have the faint satisfaction of leaving a black mark down the length of her car though.

The cycle paths in Leicester are atrocious - poorly maintained and innappropriate. It's safer to stay on the road - at least I can avoid pedestrians. It's not their fault that to build a cycle path the pavement width has been split into two with a white line, such that neither pedestrian nor cyclist are safe.

Maddening.

Is there an age limit to bicycling ? I have seen many of my oldr patients (70+ ) swaying around the town I live in. Oh, before anyone incriminates for ageism, I am myself well over 70 !
