I had similarly pleasant experiences in NZ, working for 1 year in Nelson. Reading your blog has made me feel quite 'NZ homesick', especially in the current anxiety-provoking jobless MMC climate. The kiwis are so welcoming, and so proud to be New Zealanders. The doctors I worked with were so content and happy, and managed to have a fantastic work-social life balance. Working and learning was a pleasure - not only did the junior doctors enjoy attending teaching sessions but the seniors loved sharing their experienecs and knowledge. Everyone seemed to have the time and the motivation - things that are so obviously lacking in many NHS hospitals at present. If only my mum could see that the grass really is greener on the other side (of the world!). That's the only down-side to the land of the long white cloud - it's such a long way from 'England home'. I hope you enjoy your time as much as I did.
