My son had a total knee repaired using LARS ligaments 3 years ago. He walked out of the hospital the 2nd day without crutches or a brace. He was back playing ball at 4 weeks post-op. Now plays university football--its a great technology. Beware of foreign doctors requesting cash---it is illegal and Americans cannot get insurance to refund them and it cannot be claimed as a tax deduction.

I am a physiotherapist at King's College Hospital (London-UK) An orthopaedic consultant has recently started LARS ACL surgery and I am working on a project to develop a rehab protocol. Is there any advised protocol already in place or any evidence out there. many thanks Nikki

Do things like supplements and vitamins show up in drug tests for athletes. I remember many years ago, Carl Lewis was elaborating on the subject and mentioned he won't even drink herbal tea anymore since there are ingredients that can show up.

I am wondering if the surgery can be delayed and if there is a temporary fix to get him through so he is able to kick for his senior year. Sounds shallow but it is important to him.

My 17 year son has a ACL tear. He is the varsity kicker and college's were looking at him this year. We are going to go the tradional surgery when the swelling goes down. I just came across "LARS" and am interested. What are the reasons it is not FDA approved? and how long does it take to get a DR from another country to look at him? It is a scary thing to think you have to go out of the country but we would do just about anything for him to get his senior year back and then hopefully college.WE ARE AT A LOSS AND ARE DEVASTATED. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR US? CBPAFOX@AOL.COM PLEASE EMAIL

I read an article in Health Journal, June 24th, about Vicor's PD2i Cardiac Analyzer. It uses an algorithm that can assess a patient's risk risk to die from Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) by analyzing heart beats. The PD2i has the ability of predicting SCD, with greater than 95% sensitivity and 81% specificity within a six month period. The test can be administered in a cardiologist's office in 20 minutes. This device could save a number of lives.
