Severe food intolerance and food challenges

18 Nov, 08 | by Ian Wacogne

In a series of children with severe food intolerance causing enterocolitis these authors have determined that a food challenge is helpful at 6 to 8 months in children with soy intolerance, and over 12 months in cow’s milk protein intolerance.  Here.

I was a little alarmed reading this; I simply assume that the majority of children grown out of their cow’s milk protein intolerance and, usually at some review in the future, the parents proudly tell you that they’ve naughtily introduced cow’s milk with no problems.  However, this paper does deal with a particularly extreme form of the condition, and so I guess it is reasonable to do a challenge.
