One Response to “Tuberculin skin test”

  1. The tuberculosis burden in developing countries like India, has not come down inspite of revised national programs. one of the difficulties faced is in the confirmation of the active or latent tuberculous infection. It is particularly difficult in the paediatric population. The higher prevalance of malnutrition in these countries makes tuberculin skin testing not very useful. Many of the children are exposed to the antitubercular drugs on presumptive consideration alone. The new INF gamma assay may be a solution for the accurate diagnosis. The cost of assay will be a limiting factor for its use in developing countries.
