Fatal adverse drug reactions
11 Jul, 07 | by BMJ Group
A BSPU (British Surveillance) study identified 7 deaths in a 13 months period. When assessed by an expert panel, five deaths were thought unlikely to be medication related, and for the remaining two a consensus could not be reached. Here.
Does this mean we’re excellent paediatricians in the UK, avoiding ADRs, or is it that we’ve just not been reporting them?

Well, there is a third possibility, which the authors discuss, which is that ADRs which end up in death really aren’t that common in children. Given that we (meaning UK consultant paediatricians) are pretty good at reporting stuff for the BPSU, and are fairly honest (?!) I’d favour that option.
